This course introduces you to media make-up and small prop making for production. The course offers an insight into the professional world of the TV, Film and theatre industries covering a wide range of skills needed for success working in these fields. Industry visits and work placement opportunities across a broad array of production companies are often available due to the increasing industry links associated with this course.
What Will I Learn?
This 2/3 year course aims to develop a wide range of skills in the chosen pathways of: 1. Media make-up and special effects. 2. Prop making.
Skills such as:
• Make-up application for television and film. • Hair lace wig dressing and application. • Special effects and the use of prosthetics. • Airbrushing techniques.
• A range of casting and moulding techniques. • Body casting. • Various model making processes. • Puppetry and prop costume.
Students will require 48 UCAS points, this is the equivalent of • 2 A Levels (at Grade D or above) or • a relevant BTEC Level 3 qualification with a Merit/Pass for a Level 3 Diploma or a Pass/Pass/Pass for a Level 3 Extended Diploma or • relevant industrial experience.
Entry to the final top up year for the BA (Hons), delivered at University of South Wales will be on successful completion of the Foundation Degree. However, in the case of mature applicants, you will be expected to demonstrate an ability to complete the course successfully and will typically have appropriate professional experience and/or alternative qualifications.
Skills acquired will be developed over the 2/3 years together with work placements linked with industry to equip students with the necessary expertise to enter a career in the creative production arts in any of the two subject areas that they have chosen.
