The Enhanced Engineering Programme is a one-year programme, which has been developed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to enter into a career in the Engineering industry. One of the VRQ route groups will study at our Rhondda Campus.
The programme is spread over 5 days of the week (30 hours). The main aims of the Enhanced Engineering Programme are to: progress learners into employment upon completion of the programme; progress learners onto a full apprenticeship in a craft occupation in the Engineering industry. As part of the Enhanced Engineering Programme there will be a work placement within an engineering environment. This will likely take place during half term holidays and arrangements for the placement will be made by the college. All full-time learners will be expected to attend skills sessions as well as their chosen vocational course. You will also be asked to attend tutorial sessions as part of your full-time course timetable.
What Will I Learn?
This course provides a broad basis of study for the electrical engineering sector.
You will learn: • Engineering Principles • Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team • Engineering Product Design and Manufacture • Electronic Devices and Circuits
The course would also include the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) which makes full use of our sector leading mechanical workshops. In the PEO you would study 6 units including:
• Working Safely in an Engineering Environment • Carrying out Engineering Activities Efficiently and Effectively • Using and Communicating Technical Information • Wiring and Testing Electrical Equipment and Circuits • Forming and Assembling Electrical Cable Enclosure and Support Systems • Assembling, Wiring and Testing Electrical Panels/Components Mounted in enclosures
5 A* - C grades at GCSE including Maths, English/Welsh & Science. It is also mandatory that you pass an entry examination. You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
At Coleg y Cymoedd we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your assessments. The better your grades the more options you will have and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher-level course.
Your knowledge and practical competences will be continually assessed, this will consist of internal and external assessments.
