Course Information
This is a two-year course designed for those who would like to pursue a career in the technical and professional areas of the construction industry for example, Architectural design, Building maintenance & surveying, Quantity surveying, Site Management and Civil engineering.
A feature of course is that in year 2 learners can specialise in Civil engineering or Architectural design. Please note that for the civil engineering option learners will need GCSE Maths grade B (Higher Tier). As part of the course you will have the opportunity to undertake work experience with consultants and other organisations working in the construction and property industry. This will give an insight into different career pathways and may lead to employer sponsorship.
What Will I Learn?
In year 1 Learners follow common programme. You will gain an understanding of the underlying principles and practice of design and construction for low and medium rise buildings and structures.
In addition you will examine the construction methods used in the construction of new buildings and their associated external works.
In year 2 learners investigate different career pathways for example, Architectural design, Quantity surveying, Site Management, Land Surveying, Civil engineering and Engineering surveying.
Emphasis is placed on you gaining academic and employability skills: such as research skills, teamwork and presentation skills which play an important part of the course.
Entry Requirements
You will need 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including English, Maths and Science or another appropriate Level 2 qualification together with Maths GCSE grade A*- C. You will also undertake a formal interview and college devised initial assessment in literacy and numeracy.
Assessment
Learners will complete a range of practical tasks, written assignments and examinations. Each module is graded with an overall Pass, Merit or Distinction.
