Course Information
GCSE English is for anyone who wants to improve their written and oral English skills. As communication, both written and oral, play such a huge role in today’s society, GCSE English is essential to help you pursue your job opportunities. No matter what the profession, job opportunities will always favour candidates who can speak clearly and fluently, and convey their thoughts convincingly in writing.
What Will I Learn?
During the course you will study:
• Spelling • Punctuation • Grammar • Speaking and listening skills • Reading and analysing various texts • Creating writing – narrative writing and descriptive writing • Transactional writing – including letters, reports, article, leaflets and speeches • Exam techniques
Entry Requirements
A minimum D grade at GCSE.
Assessment
There will be an Oracy assessment which will consist of a 5-7 minute presentation and a 10 minute group discussion. Combined these will equate to 20% of the overall course. There will also be two examinations at the end of the academic year accounting for 80% of the qualification. You will be assessed throughout the year to monitor your progress.

Career Progression
- GCSE English is an extremely useful qualification and is a basic requirement for many courses of study. For teachers at primary or secondary schools, grade B GCSE English is a compulsory requirement.
