Course Information
The course is designed to deepen your understanding and promote confidence in your use of mathematics. Progression through the course will enable you to develop your abilities to reason logically using mathematical proof.
What Will I Learn?
The AS Modules are Unit 1 (Pure) and Unit 2 (Statistics and Mechanics)
Surds, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Differentiation and Functions. Integration, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry, Exponentials and Logarithms, Equations of Circles, Arcs/Sectors/Segments, Integration, Trapezium Rule, Forces and Motion, vectors, probability, sampling and discrete distributions.
At A2 you will study Unit 3 (Pure) and Unit 4 (Statistics and Mechanics).These modules will cover:
Differentiation, Integration, Trigonometry and Functions, Iterative Methods, Simpson’s Rule, Binomial Series, Volume of Revolution, Vectors and Differential Equations, Forces and Motion, friction, momentum and moments, normal distribution, hypothesis tests.
Entry Requirements
You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including a grade B in Mathematics at higher tier.
You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
Assessment
You will be assessed by 100% examination.

This subject is part of the full time A level Programme. To apply for this subject you will need to select this subject as one of 3 AS Levels/Vocational Options to study within the A Level Programme together with the Welsh Baccalaureate. Vocational options include: Applied Science (BTEC) , Criminology (WJEC), Law (BTEC), Sports and Exercise Sciences (BTEC)
