Course Information
A-level English Literature focuses on the study of literary texts, investigating themes and characters, historical and biographical contexts, different interpretations by critics and other readers.
What Will I Learn?
In the first year you will study the poetry of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, a play (Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams) and a novel (Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë).
In the second year you will study the poetry of Christina Rossetti and a Shakespeare play (King Lear), as well as complete a coursework essay comparing one pre-2000 novel with one post-2000 novel.
Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs A*-C including at least B in English Literature and C in English Language
Assessment
First year: 2 exams; Second year: 2 exams plus coursework.
