The qualification has been developed for individuals aged 17 (18 by the February of the academic year) or over working in, or intending to work, in the healthcare and social care sectors. It will enable learners to apply for registration with Social Care Wales as a social care worker in domiciliary care or residential care providing that they meet any additional registration requirements. This qualification will be a requirement for practice set by Social Care Wales.
In addition to the course there is also the potential for you to engage with the Rhondda Cynon Taff induction training programme. This will include moving and handling , health and safety, safeguarding and social care values. Work placements with Rhondda Cynon Taff health and social care services are another possibility when choosing this course to enable learners to develop their practical skills and put their learning into context. Alongside the qualification you will be expected to study skills, this may include a re-sit opportunity for English or Maths GCSEs.
What Will I Learn?
The qualification will provide a thorough introduction to the principles, values and knowledge needed to work in the healthcare and social care sectors with adults and children and young people. The content for this qualification supports learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of:
• the core principles and values which underpin health and social care practice • ways of working in the health and social care sectors • effective practice within health and social care • progression routes to further study or employment within Health and Social Care safeguarding.
GCSEs at Grade C or above to include Maths or English Language/Welsh. Alternative equivalent qualifications can be discussed at interview.
A successful DBS check and application for the update service on the DBS check. All applicants will be provided with a “Suitability for Care pro-forma” that must be completed.
To achieve this qualification, candidates must pass: • four externally-set scenario-based assessments that are marked in the centre that will be taken throughout the qualification. • one externally-set, externally-marked multiple choice test.
