This 1-year course aims to develop a broad range of skills and techniques which will enable you to progress further onto the level 3 qualification in media hair, make-up and special effects.
What Will I Learn?
During this course you will develop a range of skills including:
• Make-up Application • Hair Artistry • Principles of researching, planning and showcasing designs. • Creative make-up artistry
You will require 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D including English Language/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy or a Level 1 sector skills course qualification including Essential Skills at Level 1, as well as a reference from an employer and/or previous tutor. You may also be asked to complete a practical skills task.
We are looking for learners with a passion for the Hair, Beauty and Make-up industry. You will be invited to participate in pre-course guidance activities which will include a course presentation. Relevant uniform and equipment is needed for this course; a full list will be provided. You will be required to undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required. You may be invited to demonstrate your practical skills and flair to ensure this is the correct path for you and your career aspirations.
Students are required to be assessed under exam conditions as well as continuous assessment for course work.

- The course offers progression opportunities onto the level 3 Diploma in Production Arts Media Makeup. We also offer opportunities to progress into Higher Education at Coleg y Cymoedd via the level 4/5 HND in Creative Production Arts (Make-Up Pathway) and the level 6 BA (Hons) TV and Film: Hair, Make-up and Special Effects (Top up Year). Employment opportunities exist via the ever-expanding Creative sector (TV and Film) within South Wales.
