As part of your course you will study a variety of topics such as the anatomy & physiology, training and fitness, assessing risk, fitness testing for sport and exercise, sports coaching, sports development and practical team sports.
Specialist areas include: sports nutrition, sports injuries, rules/regulations and officiating, exercise, health and lifestyle, psychology for sports performance and instructing physical activity and exercise.
5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh or completion of a full vocational programme at Level 2 which must also include GCSE Maths and English/Welsh at grades A*- C or equivalent such as Level 2 ESW Communications and Application of Number. Learners on this course need to have satisfactory clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Level 2 programme must also include GCSE Maths & English/Welsh at grades A*-C or equivalent such as Level 2 ESW Communications and Application of Number. Plus satisfactory references. You will be invited to attend an interview. During this interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
To gain the Level 3 in Sport you must complete internal assessments in all units. Assessment will cover practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written questions. All units are assessed, graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to apply for courses in Higher Education. You could also apply for employment within the sector.
