As part of your course you will study a variety of topics such as the anatomy & physiology, training and fitness, assessing risk, fitness testing for sport and exercise, sports coaching, sports development and practical team sports. Specialist areas include: sports nutrition, sports injuries, rules/regulations and officiating, exercise, health and lifestyle, psychology for sports performance and instructing physical activity and exercise.
5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh or completion of a full vocational programme at Level 2 which must also include GCSE Maths and English/Welsh at grades A*- C or equivalent such as Level 2 ESW Communications and Application of Number. Learners on this course need to have satisfactory clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
To gain the Level 3 in Sport you must complete internal assessments in all units. Assessment will cover practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written questions. All units are assessed, graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
The course gives you the skills they need to understand the sport and recreation sector and the employment opportunities available to them on completion of the course. These qualifications can also contribute towards applications for higher education where learners can pursue degree level qualification.
