Pathways 3 Vocational Pathways

The course is aimed at learners with moderate learning difficulties and/or social and behavioural difficulties. There will be the opportunity to develop social skills, improve independence, build confidence and friendships. Activities undertaken during the academic year could include participating in creative and leisure activities, visiting or discussing community facilities and local attractions, guest speakers from various public services, using public transport, utilising different types of technology, money skills and gaining an understanding of different jobs. This takes place within a supported environment over 3 full days per week.

What Will I Learn?

The course follows the ILS curriculum where the four pillars of learning provide the core of the programme:


• Health and Wellbeing • Community Inclusion • Independent Living • Employability The curriculum provides a practical and flexible approach for gaining and consolidating skills in each of these areas in order to prepare learners for adult life. Communication, numeracy and digital literacy skills are a key part of learning, with opportunities to develop and practice these skills embedded within each of the four pillars.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however an informal interview will be held. During the interview, an initial assessment will be completed to assess a variety of skills. Students' social and emotional needs will be discussed to ensure the course is suitable for learners' needs.

Assessment

There is no formal assessment on this programme. Students will have their progress towards individual targets continuously assessed and reviewed. Reviews with students and their parents/carers will take place throughout the year. Progression is tracked through target setting and assessment. Some learners will have the opportunity to gain qualifications in communication and numeracy, if appropriate.

Career Progression

After successfully completing the course you have the opportunity to progress onto mainstream courses, if appropriate. Specialist Careers’ advice is provided by Careers Wales and assistance with compiling a CV or accessing training is given prior to completion of the course.
