The Enhanced Engineering Programme is a one-year programme, which has been developed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to enter into a career in the Engineering industry. The programme is spread over 5 days of the week (30 hours). The main aims of the Enhanced Engineering Programme are to: • progress learners into employment upon completion of the programme; • progress learners onto a full apprenticeship in a craft occupation in the Engineering industry. As part of the Enhanced Engineering Programme there will be a work placement within an engineering environment. This will likely take place during half term holidays and arrangements for the placement will be made by the college.
All full-time learners will be expected to attend skills sessions as well as their chosen vocational course. You will also be asked to attend tutorial sessions as part of your full-time course timetable.
What Will I Learn?
The BTEC route would follow the Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Engineering (RQF). This would mean that there are both external and internal assessments. The BTEC units include: • Engineering Principles • Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team • Engineering Product Design • Computer Aided Design in Engineering
You would also do the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) which makes full use of our sector leading mechanical workshops. In the PEO you would study: • Producing components using hand fitting techniques • Preparing and using lathes for turning operations • Preparing and Using milling machines
5 GCSES A*-C including a B grade in Maths, C or above in English Language & Science or a Level 2 qualification with the appropriate selection and grades of units. You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
At Coleg y Cymoedd we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your assessments. The better your grades the more options you will have and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher-level course.
Your knowledge and practical competences will be continually assessed, this will consist of internal and external assessments.
Coleg y Cymoedd takes every effort to ensure the information on this website is accurate at time of being live. Coleg y Cymoedd reserves the right to make changes or withdraw without notice any of the courses, course facilities or support described.

You will be required to purchase Uniform (T Shirt and Trousers), safety boots & safety glasses (approx £55). Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.
- On successful completion of this course previous learners have progressed into careers in many engineering disciplines. Many learners progress onto level 3 Diplomas in Engineering. There is a clear route through to incorporated and chartered status. Level 3 Diplomas are valued by employers and higher education institutions. Having developed fundamental practical skills and a basic understanding of Mechanical Engineering concepts, employment opportunities exist in the field of Tool-making, Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering. You will also be encouraged to seek apprenticeships within the relevant industry.
