Statement on face coverings at Coleg y Cymoedd
Following the recent Welsh Government announcement and associated media coverage, we have decided at Coleg y Cymoedd to introduce the mandatory use of face coverings in all communal areas of the college campuses for staff and learners. The college will be providing two washable face coverings for all learners at their inductions next week, together with instructions of how to safely use them. There will of course be some exceptions where this type of face covering is not suitable and these might relate to personal circumstances / health of some learners – alternatives can be discussed on an individual basis.
With teaching and learning taking place across a wide range of settings, often where specific personal protection equipment is already required to meet industry standards, colleges will provide advice and assistance for learners about what is required. Learners might also be required to wear face coverings in formal teaching and learning sessions, if a risk assessment deems it necessary.
The primary concern for us, as always, is to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the whole college population as they return to college next week and we need to ensure that we operate in a way that does not increase community transmission of Coronavirus.
