The spirit of Christmas is alive and well at Coleg y Cymoedd
The spirit of Christmas is alive and well at Coleg y Cymoedd this year, with over 100 presents being collected for Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Santa Appeal.
The College has participated in the Santa Appeal for several years and has once again been overwhelmed by the generosity of staff and learners responding to the appeal.
Julie Rees, Director of Human Resources and co-ordinator of the Appeal at the College said ‘There has been an amazing response from both employees and learners - it’s been fantastic.
I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has made a donation to the Appeal. Our presents will make a difference to so many children and their families this Christmas – spreading a little magic.
The Appeal provides the opportunity for everyone to get involved, as no matter what the cost of the gift, you know it will bring a smile to the faces of children in situations less fortunate than ours”.
The presents from each campus were collected and stored on the Rhondda campus where they were collected by the Santa Appeal Team from Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council; in plenty of time to deliver to the children in time for Christmas.
Christmas can be an especially hard time for families due to low income, social isolation or family breakdown; supporting the Appeal provides relief for the whole family, easing the stress and showing families that someone cares.
Thanking the College, Deputy Cabinet Member for Children & Young People, Tina Leyshon said: “Once again we would like to thank staff and students at Coleg y Cymoedd for their continued support of the Council’s Santa Appeal.
“Last year, more than 2,000 children in Rhondda Cynon Taf who are less fortunate than others, received a present to open on Christmas Day, and will be doing the same again this year.
“That is down to the overwhelming generosity of the public, so thank you Coleg y Cymoedd for helping others at this time of year.”
