What course did you study at Coleg y Cymoedd?
I completed the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business course at the Nantgarw campus
What made you decide to study at Coleg y Cymoedd?
I attended a college Open event and felt that studying at the college would help me to grow as an individual and therefore make it easier when attending university; as there was less of a jump between college and university. Without studying Business I would not have chosen the Event sector and also would not have had the confidence to apply for an Internship programme.
Why did you choose to study this course?
The course taught me many academic skills that I still value and use today through essay and report writing. It also offered 18 modules in total ranging from finance, marketing, human resources, event management etc. From studying this course it opened my eyes to a variety of employment opportunities that lay within the Business sector. The course also encouraged me to not only develop academically but also practically.
What are the benefits of studying at Coleg y Cymoedd?
The course offered me great experiences and development opportunities, within a vibrant environment. The lecturers were extremely supportive and I had access to first class facilities. Studying a large range of topics within the Business sector gave me a greater insight and knowledge of career paths and opportunities.
What do you intend to do next/what are you doing now that you have left?
I am currently studying Event Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University and through hard work and determination I have managed to have a successful first year. I have also landed myself a one year internship programme in the USA which started in June 2018 in New York. I will be working at Greenwich Country Club within the Event and Hospitality sector.
How is the course helping you achieve your ambitions?
Without attending the work experience exchange programme at Coleg y Cymoedd I would not have had the confidence or ability to be able to take a massive step and move across the world and work for a year in New York.
How will studying impact on your life?
What I’ve achieved through my university course and my internship programme would not have been possible without attending the Business course at Coleg y Cymoedd; as I developed not only academically but also gained practical skills learnt through the amazing support of my tutors.
Would you recommend this college and this course to others?
Most definitely - Through studying Business at Coleg y Cymoedd I was given the opportunity to take on extracurricular activities during my days off such as the CISI qualification. I was also fortunate to take part in a two-week all expenses paid work experience programme with Erasmus to Bilbao, Spain. Whilst in Spain I worked in a virtual office and was able to experience new cultures and make friends who are still in contact with me today.
