Cymoedd provides a platform for a career in Software Development
When Rebekah Davies from Llantwit Fardre was making her career choices she wanted to study close to home and the Nantgarw campus was a perfect choice; therefore she attended an Open Day to check out the courses. She enrolled on the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT and hasn’t looked back. The variety of courses, excellent teaching standards and up to date curriculum provided the best chance for Rebekah to follow her career.
The course was the most up-to-date and relevant IT course, with a large variety of modules in an ever changing subject. This allowed Rebekah to experience a multitude of paths that she could follow and find out what she enjoyed most, in order to make the best decision for her future.
She found her passion in frontend software development and achieved the qualifications needed to continue her studies in a Russel Group University. After leaving Coleg y Cymoedd Rebekah attended Cardiff University furthering her studies in IT, with a Software Development course and graduated with a 2:1.
She went on to secure a fantastic graduate Job as a Junior Software Developer with an international banking software company, with an office in Cardiff; and recognises how her studies at Coleg y Cymoedd allowed her to experience different aspects of IT.
Speaking about her time at Cymoedd, Rebekah said “ I believe I had a much higher quality of teaching than if I had studied at the local comprehensive school. The tutors at Coleg y Cymoedd care and dedicate time towards their students rather than being a number. The college has good travel links, and excellent modern facilities with a friendly and comfortable atmosphere; there’s also study spaces with access to computers, along with a lovely coffee shop”.
Congratulating Rebekah on her ‘Learning Journey’ course tutors Barbara Hayman and Libby Williams added “Rebekah showed her commitment to the course and her curiosity for the topic from the start. Striving not only to achieve the best grades but also questioning us to gain a better understanding of the concepts, techniques and the tools used in the different fields of computing taught on the course. She used her time wisely gaining a work placement in the summer to contextualise the skills she developed on the course. We are very proud to have been part of Rebekah’s story and of her achievements
