Shaun Howells
Shaun Howells from Porth, Rhondda enjoys his current employment at Welsh Government and recognises the role Coleg y Cymoedd played in securing that position.
On leaving school, Shaun explored all options to further his education and after visiting the website and a college Open Day, he decided the college would provide him with the best chance of furthering his education, whilst also meeting new friends.
Following some research on the courses available, he enrolled on the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business; as the modules and subjects relating to Business were ones that interested him.
The course helped Shaun achieve his ambitions and after successfully completing the course at the college, he went on to study Business at university, graduating with a degree in Human Resource Management. Studying at the college and university provided Shaun with a greater sense of determination and responsibility in order to fulfil his career path.
Shaun now works for the Welsh Government as part of the Corporate Shared Service Centre where his role involves customer service with both members of staff and the public and administrative duties such as logging Fit Notes, providing references and resetting staff’s pay system passwords/pins etc.
Speaking of his time at the college Shaun said “I would definitely recommend Coleg y Cymoedd, they offer a wide range of interesting courses, you meet new people, gain greater independence and develop social skills”.
