Confidentiality

We want you to feel like you can talk to the Wellbeing and Safety Team about anything and their services are confidential.

There is a duty to report significant concerns and confidentiality will not apply if a learner or someone else is at risk of harm. Read our 2023-2026 Wellbeing strategy to find out more.

Additional wellbeing support

The Wellbeing and safeguarding team can offer more targeted support to learners who need it, including:

  • Young and adult carers
  • Children in care – ‘Children Looked After’ (CLA)
  • Young people leaving care

Safeguarding at Coleg y Cymoedd

We work hard to keep all our learners safe. Each campus has a designated Safeguarding Co-ordinator who is part of the Wellbeing and Safeguarding Team.

If you’re worried for yourself or for someone you know, just look for the purple lanyards. These are worn by members of staff that you can approach for support through difficult times. You can also go to your tutor for help and advice.

Safeguarding Co-ordinators respond to all reports of a learner at risk of significant harm or subject to illegal abuse and will act in accordance with:

Our head of Wellbeing and safeguarding is Hannah McDowell (hannah.mcdowell@cymoedd.ac.uk).

Radicalisation and extremism

Coleg y Cymoedd is committed to the reduction of radicalisation and extremism, to keep all our learners safe.

We follow guidance from Prevent, a national Government strategy that counters terrorism, radicalisation and extremist views. If you think someone is sharing or being influenced by extremist views, talk to the Wellbeing and Safeguarding Team.
