Your Language; Your Right

The Welsh language belongs to you. Under the Welsh Language Standards (Welsh Language (Wales) Regulations 2011, you have the right to receive services and support through the medium of Welsh if you so wish. As a College, we would like to encourage you to make the most of these rights during your time with us.

You have the right to:

• Letters, forms and correspondence from the College in Welsh

• Welcome booklets and prospectuses in Welsh

• Apply for financial assistance in Welsh

• Welsh speaking personal tutor

• Counselling service in Welsh

• Meetings related to complaints, disciplinary issues and support in Welsh

And, subject to the approval of your course’s awarding body; you have the right to:

• Submit work in Welsh

• Certificates in Welsh

Learning through the medium of Welsh

The College is working towards providing Welsh speakers with the following options:

• Bilingual Level 3 Health and Social Care Course *

• Welsh-medium WBQ groups at AS and A2 levels *

• Welsh-medium GCSE Mathematics resit classes *

• Welsh-medium Customer Care Units (Cymraeg Gwaith) across a range of classes

• Welsh-medium First Aid Courses (funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol)

The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol is leading the development of Welsh-medium and bilingual education and training in the post-compulsory sector in Wales.

Socialising in Welsh

Coleg y Cymoedd’s Dragons Club

We have set up a virtual ‘Dragons Club’ for Welsh speakers within the College. It’s an opportunity to socialise, make friends and take part in activities, through the medium of Welsh.

Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Ambassadors

Coleg y Cymoedd has 2 Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol ambassadors. Their role is to promote the Welsh language at the College, to promote the activities of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol within the College and to be a voice for the College’s Welsh speakers.

Menter Iaith Rhondda Cynon Taf – a local organisation in RCT that encourages local enthusiasm to use more Welsh – organises all kinds of activities for all ages. http://www.menteriaith.cymru
