Overview

Cert-ain accredited qualification covering the requirements of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (England & Wales) and associated Scottish Water Byelaws (as applicable). Provides installers and duty holders with the knowledge to design, install, commission and maintain plumbing systems that prevent waste, misuse, undue consumption, contamination and erroneous measurement of water. Successful completion supports recognition by relevant UK water companies and industry schemes (scheme rules apply).

What will I learn?

Purpose, scope and legal duties of the Water Regulations/Byelaws
Roles of the water undertaker, installer, owner/occupier, “approved contractor” concept (e.g. WaterSafe – scheme rules apply)
Materials and fittings: compliance, WRAS approvals (awareness)
System design requirements: pipe sizing, layout, cold water storage, hot water systems (overview), backflow prevention (Fluid Categories 1-5) and appropriate devices
Installation standards: workmanship, notification requirements to the water undertaker, access for inspection, prevention of contamination and cross-connection
Commissioning, disinfection, prevention of stagnation and legionella awareness (regulatory interface)
Meters and measurement: positioning and protection (awareness)
Common non-compliances and how to rectify them
Documentation: records, certificates, and customer guidance

Self-employed, earning under £34,303
Full-time carer, earning under £34,303
Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

There are no formal prerequisites.

Assessment

Theory: multiple choice and/or short answer covering regulatory application and practical scenarios

Career progression

Domestic Hot Water (Unvented) / G3 (commonly recommended by providers)
Energy Efficiency / Part L and Low-Temperature System Design
Heat Pumps (LCL/BPEC/other), Legionella Awareness/Control
Application for Approved Contractor status (e.g. WaterSafe) subject to scheme criteria

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
