Overview

This qualification is intended for electricians who carry out initial and periodic verification and certification of electrical installations. It covers the principles, practices, and legislation related to the inspection and testing of new electrical installations, ensuring compliance with the latest industry regulations. The course is recognised across the industry as a key step for those responsible for verifying electrical work.

What will I learn?

  • How to safely carry out initial and periodic verification of electrical installations
  • How to perform visual inspections and electrical testing procedures (e.g. continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, etc.)
  • How to accurately complete electrical installation certificates and reports
  • Understanding the requirements of BS 7671:2022, Guidance Note 3, and relevant health and safety legislation
  • Safe isolation procedures and use of test equipment

  • Aged 19+
  • Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

  • Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts), earning under £34,303
  • Self-employed, earning under £34,303
  • Full-time carer, earning under £34,303
  • Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

Learners should hold an NVQ 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent) or have extensive experience within the electrotechnical sector.

Assessment

Practical assessment (inspection and testing tasks). Multiple choice online exam. Completion of documentation (e.g. Electrical Installation Certificate).

Career progression

  • Enhanced role as a Qualified Electrician or Inspector
  • Progression to roles in electrical compliance, site supervision, or design and verification
  • Further training in Periodic Inspection & Testing (2391-51 equivalent) or electrical design qualifications

Course dates will be discussed directly with the training provider upon successful completion of funding application. Any course dates arranged with the training provider prior to funding being secured may not be honoured – Course dates will only be confirmed once funding has been approved.
