Overview

This OFTEC-accredited qualification is designed for experienced heating engineers and installers looking to gain the skills and certification required to install, commission, and service air source heat pump (ASHP) systems. The course ensures compliance with relevant building regulations, industry standards, and MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) requirements, and is recognised by manufacturers and employers across the renewable heating sector.

Funding eligibility criteria

Aged 19+
Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts)
Self-employed
Full-time carer
Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

Plumping or heating qualification level 2/3 or several years experience in plumbing/heating industry, AND Unvented Hot Water Systems (G3) and Water regulations.

Assessment

Combination of written theory assessments. Practical assessment involving installation, commissioning, and servicing tasks. Completion of relevant documentation and compliance checks.

Career progression

Work as a certified ASHP installer under the MCS scheme
Expand into wider renewable heating technologies (e.g. ground source, hybrid systems)
Meet eligibility requirements for government-backed schemes and funding
Further training in low-temperature heating system design or renewables integration
