Overview

The Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate course is designed for professionals who want to implement data engineering solutions using Microsoft Fabric. This training equips learners with the skills to design and develop effective data loading patterns, data architectures, and orchestration processes. Participants will gain hands-on experience with technologies such as Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Dataflows Gen2, and Fabric pipelines. The course also covers real-time data processing, medallion architecture design, querying data warehouses, and implementing CI/CD practices. Learners will understand how to secure, monitor, and administer Microsoft Fabric environments for enterprise-scale analytics solutions.

What will I learn?

After completing this course, learners will be able to ingest and transform data using Microsoft Fabric, implement lakehouses and data warehouses, and apply real-time intelligence solutions. They will gain proficiency in using Apache Spark and Delta Lake for data processing, orchestrating data pipelines, and managing data engineering workflows. The course also teaches how to secure data access, monitor analytics environments, and apply CI/CD practices using Fabric APIs. Learners will be able to work with SQL, PySpark, and Kusto Query Language (KQL) to manipulate and transform data effectively.

Entry requirements

There are no mandatory prerequisites for this course, but it is recommended that learners have a foundational understanding of core data concepts and how they are implemented using Microsoft data services. Familiarity with data lifecycle processes such as ingestion, transformation, storage, and visualisation is beneficial. Experience with relational databases and SQL, knowledge of ETL workflows, and awareness of cloud-based data solutions like Azure will support success. Basic programming experience in Python or R, understanding of access control mechanisms, and the ability to interpret business requirements into analytics use cases are also helpful.

Assessment

The DP-700 exam is a proctored certification assessment that lasts approximately 100 minutes. It includes interactive components and requires a minimum score of 700 out of 1000 to pass. The exam evaluates skills in implementing and managing analytics solutions, ingesting and transforming data, and monitoring and optimising analytics environments.

Career progression

Professionals who earn the Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification can pursue roles such as Fabric Data Engineer, Data Integration Specialist, or Analytics Solution Architect. With further experience and certifications like DP-600: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate, career paths can lead to senior positions including Senior Data Engineer, Data Platform Architect, or Head of Data Engineering.
