This course is designed to provide a coherent programme of professional training for those working in or wishing to work in post-compulsory education and training, including untrained part-time FE / HE tutors, adult and community tutors, youth work tutors, fire and police officers, health professionals, industrial and/or commercial trainers, private trainers, armed forces personnel and educational support workers operating in any industrial capacity for a considerable part of their working day.
Graduates will be enrolled onto Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE Level 6) and non-graduates onto the Professional Certificate in Education (PCET Level 5).
This course is run on Nantgarw, Aberdare and Ystrad Mynach campuses.
The emphasis on the course is ‘learning by doing’ and you will be given ample opportunity to develop the skills and techniques of a good teacher. The academic components of the course are modular based and include elements such as curriculum teaching and learning methods, planning and assessing learning plus option modules.
Learners are expected to make their own arrangements in order to obtain 100 hours supervised practical experience (teaching practice). This will be performed during the course of the two years.
You will study core modules leading to 60 credits per year.

Year 2
You will be continuously assessed and you will be required to produce a variety of assignments. Your teaching ability will also be assessed throughout the course. There are no final examinations.
Our graduates have a proven track record of moving into full-time and permanent teaching posts. This course will help graduates develop confidence and skills in working with a range of people and using the latest technology and media. It will also prepare you for further study.
After completing the course, you could have a career as a PcET practitioner within the Post Compulsory Education and Training sector, e.g. Further Education (FE), Training Providers, Adult and Community Learning and Work Based Learning.
Recent graduates have gained full and part time employment across the sector and many of our past graduates actively support the course as mentors for our new student teachers.
Prof Ce Level 5
You will be required to hold an NVQ level 3 or equivalent in your chosen subject and be able to demonstrate relevant industrial, professional or commercial experience where appropriate.
PgCE level 6
You will need to have a Degree in your chosen subject area.

Course Fees and Funding
Course Fees for the PGCE/PCET are £2700 per year for part-time applicants.
Students who wish to study at Higher Education level can contact Student Finance Wales for financial help with course fees, provided that they are living in Wales.
