The Extended Certificate consists of four modules.
You will gain an understanding of the underlying principles and practice of design and construction for low and medium rise buildings and structures.
In addition you will examine the construction methods used in the construction of new buildings and their associated external works.
Emphasis is placed on you gaining employability skills: such as research skills, team work, presentation skills which play an important part of the course.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including English, Maths and Science or another appropriate Level 2 qualification together with Maths GCSE grade A*- C. You will also undertake a formal interview and college devised initial assessment in literacy and numeracy.
Learners will complete a range of practical tasks, written assignments and examinations. Each module is graded with an overall Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Depending on your overall will have a choice of progression routes:
• Foundation degree or HNC in Sustainable Construction and Surveying
• Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment (Top-up)
• Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Civil engineering (Top-up)
Purchase of steel toe capped boots, overalls and a course text book is required for this course. Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.
