Delicious! First visit for the new school term and year, we were not disappointed! Food was lovely, with a good choice to choose from, and executed well by the students and their mentors. (Sorry forgot to take photos of the lovely lamb and sea bass dishes as couldn't wait to get stuck in!) Cocktails were good as well. Outstanding festive meal Just returned from another outstanding meal at The Nant. This time a Christmas menu. Food as always was delicious, the students have a real talent. Enjoyed a couple of the festive cocktails (negroni) which were lovely and quite potent🤪 they went down a treat especially when it's someone else who is the designated driver! Lovely food from very talented students. Managed to book a lunch for the last meal of this term with friends. This menu was devised by three of the students. Delicious food Lovely meal as always the food beautifuly presented. Slight negative was that the service was a bit slow compared to other diners. Food & Service second to none We have eaten there before in October Kirsty and her team do a wonderful job and the standard of the food is excellent In December we booked in for the Xmas menu and once again we were not disappointed. The menu choice was excellent The staff are attentive, engage with their guests and we noticed how more confident they have become. The chefs come out at the end of the serving to discuss what they have produced to each table. Thursday, 27 February 2020 Just been here for what was billed as a Tapas meal. Not entirely my idea of tapas, more of a 'Spanish-themed' meal. Nevertheless, it was first-class. The students are all very friendly and clearly out to please the customers. The food was delicious and the price very reasonable. Five-star rating. Always the highest quality food and excellent service - at a very reasonable price! My wife and I went along recently for the Christmas lunch offering at Carriages. As always the food was outstanding and the service attentive and friendly. This is a training restaurant but the quaily here matches most top-end we have visited. All the food is created from fresh ingredients. We both had wild game terrine to start with pickled cherries, a cherry coulisand curly endive - it was delicious. My wife had for mains paupiette of roast turkey with all the trimmings, and I had Pithivier, a range of mushrooms with chestnuts and thyme encased in puff pastry and and a madeira suace. Both were outstandingly tasty and freshly made and cooked. For dessert we both had chocolate orange cheesecake - a real treat and not at all heavy. we just managed to squeeze in the fresh coffee and home-made mince pie at the end. All this cost just £16.95 each - a real bargain! EXCELLENT WILL BE RETURNING Had a fabulous meal here on Friday 11th October. The choice was excellent and the food was also excellent. So glad we went. I’d heard of Colliery 19, but never got around to going there….until this evening, and we’re so glad we did. The food was wonderful and the staff so very attentive and totally customer focussed. It was lovely that some of the trainee chefs came to our table and asked for our opinion on the course they’d prepared. This just added to what was already a lovely experience. Amazing quality ingredients and everything was cooked to such a high standard - the learners should be proud of themselves! Well done to Annie-Rose too for supporting her learners. A Hidden Gem! Premium Dining in this Training College. What a find right on our doorstep! We had a very pleasant experience here, the ambiance is perfect, low music, low lighting, comfortable and spacious. Good drinks menu and cocktails. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband had a cod loin with samphire starter, confit duck croquettes with kimchi for me. Never had kimchi before, loved the combination. We both had saddle of rabbit with braised spring roll, again delicious. Star of the show was the blackcurrant soufflé for my husband, while for me the lemon verbena sorbet served with my rhubarb and custard tart stood out. Everything was beautifully presented. The service was outstanding, you wouldn’t know the young staff were still in training. Excellent value for money - two beers, a large wine, three courses each and two coffees for £50. Young people learning the skills to become the next generation of chefs and front of house in hospitality.. All are there to learn and be guided by extremely talented staff who give these students all they need in terms of learning, dedication to being the best the students can be, and it just leaves you, the customers, to enjoy some extremely delicious, and very well presented cuisine.. They ask for your feedback? This is their place to find a way to become talented people going forward.. This genuinely is true find of fine cuisine.. They do theme evenings during the year.. Wish I could go Back and eat it all again! Having eaten at Colliery 19 previously, this visit was a little different. A “Back to the Future” themed evening which included welcome drinks, canapés, live music, a full menu with 3 separate dessert courses, and lots of twists from beginning to end, including a theatrically-presented box of rocket lollies, and lots of fancy-dress. The atmosphere was great, the food innovative and (as always) incredibly tasty, lots of different drinks to taste and everyone appeared to be having lots of fun. Brilliant on all levels 👏 This place is just amazing from start to finish, the food was amazing afternoon tea, well worth traveling for... The staff are just so welcoming and friendly. The students are doing a fabulous job and very professional, they are all going to make such a difference in the industry. Food.. well what can I say loved every part of it the detail is amazing and the quality and test is even better... Such a relaxing environment to be in. Highly recommend Scholars Restaurant Scholars Restaurant at Ystrad Mynach Campus exceeds all expectations. I would highly recommend. Myself and the family thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience: the friendly welcome, the polite and helpful waiters/waitresses. The three course lunch was one of the best i have ever tasted, the bread with paprika butter was wonderful, the xmas pud was another level, wow wow wow The visit of the Chefs to our table. First Visit! This was our first visit. The first thing we noticed was the 5 Food Hygiene Rating. The restaurant was light and airy. The tables were laid out perfectly with small vases of fresh herbs for decoration. All the cutlery was gleaming and the glasses sparkling. This gave such a good impression even before we had looked at the menu. The maître d' welcomed us and explained he was the tutor supervising the students. The three course menu was £20. Each course was beautifully presented. We were served by very helpful and friendly 1st and 2nd year students. After our meal the 3rd year Chef came to our table to ask if everything was satisfactory. it was good to hear about his training and ambitions for his future. Particularly enjoyed the chicken breast with mushrooms and leek. Little touches like the paprika butter made it feel like a real treat at a very reasonable price!
