Welcome by Head of School for Sport, Travel and Public Services
During your course you will spend your time learning about fitness training and programming, physiology, sports coaching, development and nutrition as well as improving your practical skills on the field and in the gym.
You will have the chance to take part in a variety of practical training sessions, role play and sporting events. You will have the opportunity to go on outdoor and adventurous activity visits (both inside and outside of the UK), volunteer at sports development festivals and observe sessions delivered by elite coaches.
Have visits from a wide range of experts from the sports industry to give insight into the day to day work of professionals in your chosen area.
Sports learners have access to the new half a million pound 4G pitch development at Pontypridd Rugby ground, Sardis Road and the multi-million pound Caerphilly Elite Academy facilities adjacent to the Ystrad Mynach campus. The £7 million Elite Sports Centre includes state of the art 4G rugby and football pitches. These facilities are used for practical sessions & assessments alongside training and home games by the college football and rugby academies.

Our reputation has grown over the last few years with Coleg y Cymoedd continually reaching and winning a number of finals. A high percentage of our players have won caps for Wales under 20s, with some even captaining the team! This season former players have had full Welsh caps.
The Football Association of Wales has teamed up with the college to launch an elite female football academy. The learners from all parts of the country will combine daily coaching sessions with full time study. Many of our players have played for Wales
Our Football Academy has been set up in partnership with Cambrian & Clydach Vale BGC. Training, gym sessions and weekly games are available for all learners. A number of our learners have achieved Wales honours.
The academy is open to learners studying on our sport programmes. As well as training sessions learners will benefit from strength & conditioning sessions from qualified instructors, regular fitness testing, nutrition advice and participation in league, cup and friendly matches.

Run in partnership with Wales Rugby League and Salford Red Devils, our Rugby League Academy is open to those aged 16-18, boys and girls, who want to join a rugby league academy with a clear pathway to play in Super League
