We are delighted that your child is considering Coleg y Cymoedd for the next step of their education journey. Coming to college offers many opportunities and it also marks the start of a more independent life in an adult environment.

At Coleg y Cymoedd learners will be encouraged to reach their full potential, increasing their confidence and providing them with real experiences to ensure when they leave they are ready for their next step.

Our learners study in excellent facilities, using the latest technology taught by expert staff. We will support them to gain the right skills and qualifications to prepare them for life after college whether they go on to higher education, take an apprenticeship, gain employment or move on to the next exciting stage of their development. Our relationship with learners includes you as their parent or guardian. We will regularly communicate with you to keep you informed of their progress.

Each learner will be supported with a personal tutor to ensure they stay on track to succeed and will receive regular one to one tutorials. You can contact them if you have any concerns or queries relating to their progress in college.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a course at Coleg y Cymoedd?

Most courses are one to two years. This does depend on the course and the level. To find out exactly, you can discuss with our team at an Open Event, Consultation Event or by contacting us.

What support is available to learners?

We are proud of our support services at Coleg y Cymoedd. Learners have access to a wide range of support including – Financial, Study Support, Learning Support, Wellbeing and Safeguarding, Career Help and University Help. What if their Maths or English GCSE grades are not high enough?

Learners at Coleg y Cymoedd will have an opportunity to resit their GCSE English or Maths alongside their main course. If learners’ grades do not match the entrance requirements for the course they want to study, we will chat with them at enrolment to find a course to suit them and their goals

How does someone apply for Coleg y Cymoedd?

Applying for a course with us is simple.

  1. Find the course they want to apply for through our course search here.
  2. Click ‘Apply Now’ on the course page, you will then be taken to a Learner Hub page
  3. Our Learner Hub (https://learnerhub.cymoedd.ac.uk/) is where you submit, view and edit any applications with us

What happens after an application is submitted?

They will receive an acknowledgement text/email fro our Admissions Team. Within a few weeks, they will be invited to a consultation event where they will have the opportunity to talk to course staff, have a tour around workshops/facilities and speak to support staff.

Transport – How can learners get to college?

All campuses benefit from excellent transport links with major bus and train routes within walking distance of each site. Each of our campuses offers free on-site car parking.

If they are aged 18 and under, they may be able to access college transport via their local council.

Do you offer any enrichment/extra activities?

We sure do! As part of our CymoeddXtra programme, we offer activities across all campuses – These include sporting teams, clubs and societies. They could even learn a language or musical instrument. Our enrichment/extra activities will normally be available during the start of term (September). Check our our CymoeddXtra Instagram here.

Do you have a college app?

Yes, our college app is available to applicants and enrolled learners. When they apply for a course with us, details about how to access the college app will be shared with them. They will be able to access their application, make any changes if needed, view any consultation/interview dates and view the status of their application.

Will they have a timetable?

Yes, a timetable will be supplied to all learners. This can be accessed within the College App or via their Learner Hub account here.

What are your entry requirements for your courses?

Our entry requirements can differ between courses. Generally, our entry requirements are as follows:

  • Entry Level: Working at Entry 2
  • Level 1: 3 GCSEs A*-E
  • Level 2: 4 GCSEs A*-D
  • Level 3: 5 GCSEs A*-C
  • Level 4/5: Appropriate Level 3 course
  • Level 6: Appropriate Level 4/5 course

ID Cards and Lanyards

All learners studying with us are expected to wear their ID lanyards when on campus.

Lanyards serve as a vital component of our safeguarding practices, aiding in the identification of individuals on campus. Replacement lanyards are available in Learner and Campus Services on each campus.

Additional Learning Support

The College’s Universal Learning Provision includes lots of different support available to all learners. Our friendly, experienced and qualified Additional Learning Provision team meet a range of individual needs.

Skills Development at Cymoedd

Learners at Cymoedd will study weekly core skills sessions alongside their course. These core skills will focus on Digital Literacy, Employability or GCSE Resits.

Learning Support

The College’s Universal Learning Provision includes lots of different support available to all learners. There is support with literacy, numeracy and digital skills; Welfare and Wellbeing support to help with personal issues as well as tutor support and guidance.

The College’s Additional Learning Provision is for learners with a disability, sensory impairment or additional learning need such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD or ASD; had a Statement (SEN) or support in school and think you need extra help in College, then please let us know
