Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-Factor Authentication (or MFA for short) is an additional security layer for securing online accounts. From the 2022/23 academic year, all staff and learners will need to use MFA when logging into college services online.

If you do not own a smartphone, or you are unable to install the Microsoft Authenticator app, please contact IT Services.

Please watch the ‘Introduction to MFA’ video below, followed by the ‘Setup Video’ relevant to the device you own. If you encounter any difficulties during the setup process, or have any queries – please check the FAQ section before contacting IT Services.

IT Services will be available in your campus Learning Centre (LC) to support you with MFA on the following dates:

I don’t own a smartphone, or the one I have is too old to install the Microsoft authenticator app.

We have other methods of MFA that we can use, so contact IT services for advice. If you don’t have a smartphone, IT Services are probably aware, and will be in touch with you via email.

I already use another authenticator app. Can I use this instead of Microsoft authenticator ?

Yes, click the ‘I want to use a another authenticator app’ link during the registration process. Please note that we will only provide support for Microsoft Authenticator.

I have privacy concerns. Can the college use this app to track me ?

No. The Microsoft authenticator app is a very simple application that delivers push notifications to your smartphone. The college cannot obtain your mobile number or any other type of personal info from this app. For more info visit :

Can I remove the Microsoft Authenticator app once I have completed MFA registration ?

No, you will need to use the app when logging into college services online. Contact IT Services if you accidentally remove the app or purchase a new phone.
