The BA (Hons) TV and Film: Hair, Make-Up and Special Effects course at Coleg Y Cymoedd, Nantgarw, is a full time 3 year course, awarded by the University of South Wales. As students of both Coleg Y Cymoedd and the University of South Wales students have access to all facilities on offer.
BA (Hons)TV and Film: Hair, Make-Up and Special Effects (1 Year Top Up) is available for applicants who have already completed a Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma to level 5 in a relevant subject to go on and complete the one year Top up at level 6.
This three year degree course introduces students to media make-up, hair and special effects for production. The course offers an insight into the Television and Film industries covering a wide range of skills for success working in these fields.
There are work placement opportunities for the students and industry visits across a broad range of production companies. These opportunities are often available due the increasing industry links associated with this course.
The aim of this course is for students to develop a wide range of skills in Hair, Media Make-Up and Special Effects supported by the extensive facilities made available to them.
The skills acquired over the three years of study, together with the possible work placements will equip students with the necessary expertise to enter into a career in the production arts.
This degree course has developed a reputation of expertise within the industry. The subject specialist lecturers have already amassed years of industry experience which has been essential to deliver the skills required by industry to help secure employment. At the end of this three year course students are in a position to gain entry into the film and TV industry at trainee level. Course Fees for the BA (Hons) TV and Film: Hair, Make-up and Special Effects are £9000 for full time applicants.
Students who wish to study at Higher Education level can contact Student Finance Wales for financial help with course fees, provided that they are living in Wales.

Equipment and Studio Fee
This practical course will require investment in the purchase of four kits to cover the range of skills delivered. These kit lists will be made available to successful applicants.
An additional studio fee is also required of £100.

The college has industry standard make-up rooms that cater for every possible skill delivered. The students have additional access to High Definition cameras and monitors to view their completed work as well as the collaboration of the photographic department for photoshoots both on and off site.
