During the course you will study:
• Spelling
• Punctuation
• Grammar
• Speaking and listening skills
• Reading and analysing various texts
• Creating writing – narrative writing and descriptive writing
• Transactional writing – including letters, reports, article, leaflets and speeches
• Exam techniques
A minimum D grade at GCSE or you will be invited in by a member of the GCSE team to sit an assessment.
There will be an Oracy assessment which will consist of a 5-7 minute presentation and a 10 minute group discussion. Combined these will equate to 20% of the overall course. There will also be two examinations at the end of the academic year accounting for 80% of the qualification. You will be assessed throughout the year to monitor your progress.
GCSE English is an extremely useful qualification and is a basic requirement for many courses of study. For teachers at primary or secondary schools, grade B GCSE English is a compulsory requirement.
