The Foundation Degree Business Management at Coleg y Cymoedd, Nantgarw Campus is a part-time evening study, three-year course, awarded by the University of South Wales.
Students are encouraged to complete a final year at the Treforest Campus, University of South Wales to achieve a full honours degree BA/BSc (Hons) top-up. This can be studied over two years part-time or over one year full-time. Students studying on our FD at Nantgarw will have access to the University facilities (including the library and student union) and they will be able to attend guest speaker talks, allowing an overall integrated experience.
The Foundation Degree Business Management course is a Higher Education course and is offered from Level 4, progressing to Level 5 and is ideal for those wishing to move into a career in management and business.
The course is designed to provide an understanding of the nature of organisations, their management and the changing external environment in which they operate.
The course programme places particular emphasis on developing student employability skills and creating opportunities for students to experience the ‘real’ business world.
This is a flexible part-time course designed to develop knowledge, skills and competencies which will enable students to pursue a career in management. It provides successful candidates with a broad based management and business qualification.
Modules of study include: Management & Organisational Behaviour; Managing People in a global context; Economics, Law and Business Environment; Employability and Professional Development; Strategic Business Analysis; Enterprise Management; Human Resources, People Work and Society, Management of Financial Information, Work Based Learning and Live Dissertation Project.
Typically, assessment involves both Individual and group collaborative report and essay based work, oral presentations as well as a few in class based written tests.
After successfully completing the Foundation Degree, students will be able to apply for a range of top-up courses at the University of South wales including BA/BSc (Hons) in: Business and Management, International Business and Management, International Events Management, Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, Logistics, Procurement and Supply Chain Management.
A qualification in business and management can help advance your career in public and private sector companies in roles such as marketing executive, retail manager, HR officer or finance assistant. With further study or training, you could progress to roles such as banker, insurance underwriter, management consultant or business development manager.
Students will require either a BTEC national, NVQ level 3 or a minimum of 1 A level and 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above to include Mathematics and English Language.
Applicants with substantial relevant experience in employment who are over 21 years may be accepted; this will be subject to interview.
Entry to the third year BA/BSc (Hons) Top-up, delivered at University of South Wales will be on successful completion of the Foundation Degree.

Course Fees and Funding
Course Fees for the Foundation Degree in Business Management are £2800 for part time applicants.
Students who wish to study at Higher Education level can contact Student Finance Wales for financial help with course fees, provided that they are living in Wales.

The course is taught in teaching classrooms that are either theory based or PC based classrooms.
PC based classrooms are equipped with windows-based PC’s with loaded full Microsoft suite of programs including Office, Teams, 365, OneNote, OneDrive, Forms, Sway, Word and Outlook.
The course students benefit from full access to the Learning Resource Centre facilities of Coleg y Cymoedd on campus as well as the University of South Wales including online and traditional business, management and leadership books, articles, academic papers, journals and publications.
