The Foundation Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Coleg y Cymoedd, Nantgarw Campus is a part-time, one-year course, awarded by the University of South Wales (Provided you have completed the HNC+ with us previously).
This course is particularly suited to those within the Engineering sector and will be delivered via tutorials and Work Placement Visits (Learners must be in a work placement prior to commencing the course).
This course will give students a wide range of industry applicable skills and knowledge through stimulating Practical tasks and written assignments.
This course has produced award winning students and is designed to ensure that students gain the right skills, experience and confidence to apply for relevant jobs within the Engineering industry and/or understand how to apply these skills to their own employers on completion of the course. The Foundation Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering aims to provide students with a high-quality learning experience. This includes subject specialist lecturers with industry links and experience that is relevant to the qualification.

The Individual project is a major technical, practical based assignment and will consist of planning and implementation phases. Projects will either be college based or industrially based; this decision will be agreed by the Project Tutor and Student at the beginning of the project. An industrial project must originate from the student’s workplace and there must be a suitable industrial tutor to oversee the work in industry.
All projects must be supported by a log-book with appropriate technical notes in a chronological format, signed by the tutor(s) on a weekly basis.
The solutions provided for a project must be appropriate and supported by full documentation in the form of a Project Report.
On completion of the Foundation Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering students are encouraged to progress onto the BA (Hons) Top-up at the University of South Wales. Support with your application to University will be given and a £500 bursary is currently available to those students who wish to study at Level 6.
Students on the HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering have had the opportunity to work with a range of partners and industry professionals on live briefs and work placements including:
Axiom, Transport for Wales, Brush Switchgear, ML Crane Services, Nexperia, CYTIVA, PCI Pharma Services, Nuaire, Flintec, Waldon LTD, Kautex, Renishaw, Philtronics, MilDef, Balmoral Tanks and many others.
Entry to the Foundation Degree is gained on Successful Completion of the HNC+ at Coleg Y Cymoedd.

Course Fees and Funding
Course Fees for the Foundation Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering are £2800 per year for part-time applicants.
There are grants that may be available. Eligible part-time students can claim a grant they will not have to pay back, regardless of their household income, and means-tested grants of up to £8,100 will be available to those who need them most.
