Celebrating a year of success at Alternative Provision Awards 2026
19 June 2026The successes and achievements of Coleg y Cymoedd’s Alternative Provision learners were recently celebrated at an awards evening at our Rhondda Campus.
Our Year 11 leavers received awards for their achievements over the academic year 2025-2026, with family, friends and staff from our partner schools invited to join the celebration.
Setup in 2025, Coleg y Cymoedd’s 14-16 Junior Apprenticeship is designed for pupils in Year 10 and 11 who may have faced challenges with the traditional school setting.
Scott Jones, Head of School (Alternative Provision) said “I am extremely proud of what our learners have achieved this year. They have helped to shape the inaugural year of this provision and the journey they have been on has been transformational, in both an academic and personal sense. I want to wish our Year 11 leavers all the very best for next year and I look forward to seeing the amazing things they achieve in their lives.”
Al Lewis, Executive Director (Widening Participation) who presented the learners with certificates said “The Alternative Provision pathway at Coleg y Cymoedd has been a real success since its launch during 2025 as can be seen this evening.”
Our Junior Apprenticeship is delivered at our Rhondda campus in collaboration with RCT council and our partner secondary schools. The provision provides an amazing opportunity for pupils aged 14-16 (Years 10-11) to study vocational or pre-vocational subjects in a real college setting, helping them build practical skills and confidence before moving on to further education, training, or employment. We wish these young people all the very best in the futures, many of which are continuing their studies with us.
