Engineering Case Study - Laura Parissi

About you and background

Laura Parissi is 17 years old from South Brazil, currently living in Merthy Tydfil. Laura is studying on the Aerospace Level 3 Extended Diploma at the Ystrad Mynach campus in her third language (Portuguese and Italian being her main languages).
Laura successfully passed the Level 3 Diploma in Aerospace with distinction and is now working hard on the Extended Diploma. Laura received the award for Engineering Learner of the Year at the annual Coleg y Cymoedd Prize Evening.
Laura is a Corporal in the Air Training Cors (ATC) 415 SQN in Merthyr Tydfil, where she volunteered served her time since May 2011, and is currently being considered for the sergeant position.

What made you decide to study at Coleg y Cymeodd?
Actually it was the closest college to me that offered this course

Why did you choose to study Engineering?
I wanted to give myself an advantage once I applied for a pilot job in the RAF.

What are the benefits of studying at Coleg y Cymoedd?
It’s a great college and it’s a lot closer to my house than other colleges.

What do you intend to do next?
I would like to get an apprenticeship in GE aviation and complete my A Levels at the same time.

How is the course helping you achieve your ambitions?
It’s been great; it’s everything I thought it would be so far.

How will studying impact on your life?
It will help me achieve my dream of being a pilot in the RAF.

Would you recommend learning to others?
Yes definitely. It’s the perfect opportunity to make something of yourself and make new friends on the way, great opportunities come once you try hard enough.
