Time will be spent in college and on practical work placement. Learners wishing to move into employment within the Care Sector have the opportunity to undertake QCF Level 2 in Health & Social Care as part of this programme (an additional 9 months of study).

Entry requirements

You will require 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D, including Maths and English/Welsh, or complete of a full relevant vocational programme at Level 1 which must include GCSE Maths and English/Welsh at grades A*-D or equivalent such as Level 1 ESW Communications and Application of Number. Plus satisfactory references

You will be invited to attend an interview and you will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required. Applicants with appropriate experience, who do not necessarily meet the academic qualifications, may be considered.

What will I study?

You will study three Core Units, four Mandatory Units and four Optional Units (possibly more, depending on the credit value), which reflect the needs of the local industry.

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed by unit assignments, via a range of methods, e.g. written assessments, oral presentations, role-play and group work, as well as observations by your tutors, and two examinations. You will be continually assessed in college, and at your work placements, for the development of your practical skills and academic knowledge.

Career Opportunities and Progression

After successfully completing this course, you may be able to progress to a Level 3 qualification in Care, a QCF Level 2 course or enter into employment.
