Purchase of steel toe capped boots, overalls and a course text book is required for this course. Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.
This course is the starting point for those wishing to become qualified as an Installation or Maintenance Electrician in the Domestic, Commercial and Industrial fields. The course covers both theory and practical skills.
You will require a Level 1 qualification in Electrical installations. Equivalent vocational experience or qualifications will also be considered.
You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
What will I study?
The course will cover the aspects of an Electrician’s work at introductory level and include;
• Basic principles of Electro-technology and Installation
• Health and Safety
• Electrical Installations Technology
• Installation of wiring systems and enclosures
• Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering
In addition, you will also complete at level 2; Application of Numbers, Communications, ICT, The Post 16 Welsh Baccalaureate and a Higher Project.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical assessments, demonstrating your ability to do the job and assignments and external examinations.
Career Opportunities and Progression
On successful completion of this course you will be able to progress onto the Level 3 Electrical Installations course, or seek employment in the electrical installations industry.
