This course is suitable for learners who are interested in developing new or existing skills which are needed to develop a career in maintaining and managing ICT resources. You will gain the knowledge and understanding required to develop skills in the support and maintenance of computer systems
This is a course which starts from the basics and develops through to more complex aspects system and customer support. It is for anyone who is interested in gaining practical system maintenance skills and experience.
You will require 3 GCSEs at grades A*- E including English and Mathematics, or successful completion of an Entry 3 Foundation qualification
You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
What will I study?
You will study the Welsh Baccalaureate where you will explore a wide range of areas including Wales, Europe and the World; Work-related Education and Personal and Social Education. As part of the Welsh Baccalaureate you will develop your Essential Skills.
Within your qualification you may study units in: Hardware System Maintenance, Software Installation & Upgrade, System Testing, Improving Productivity using IT and Health & Safety in ICT
How will I be assessed?
All learning is undertaken within our modern and well-equipped IT classrooms and will take place within a supportive and friendly environment. The Welsh Baccalaureate and Essential Skills assessments are via portfolio evidence and a project. You will undertake an assessment at the end of each unit. These assessments are either in class simulations or on-line multiple choice questions. You will be expected to work to deadlines and maintain your course files/portfolios to the required standards.
Career Opportunities and Progression
On successful completion of the course you will be prepared for employment in an IT support environment. Alternatively, you may be eligible to progress to a Level 2 course such as Level 2 Diploma in ICT System Support, Level 2 Diploma in IT Users or a Diploma in Information Technology.
