This course starts from the basics and is suitable for learners who are interested in developing new or existing skills needed to develop a career in maintaining and managing ICT resources.
You will gain knowledge and understanding of Information Technology and PC maintenance. This will be achieved through completion of various units and one week’s work experience in industry.
You will require 3 GCSEs grades A* to E including Maths and English or successful completion of Entry 3 Foundation qualifications.
You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
What will I study?
You will work towards achieving a L1 Diploma for IT Users and L1 Certificate in ICT Professional Competence.
Some of the units being studied include: dismantle, assemble, install and maintain a desktop computing system, software installation and upgrade, system testing, improving productivity and health and safety in the workplace.
You will also study units of information technology such as using the internet, internet security, designing a simple web page, design and imaging software and many others
Core Skills in literacy and numeracy will also be studied.
How will I be assessed?
All learning is undertaken within our modern and well-equipped IT classrooms and workshops. You will undertake an assessment at the end of each unit. You will be expected to work to deadlines and maintain your course files/portfolios to the required standards.
Career Opportunities and Progression
Upon successful completion of the course you will be prepared for employment in an IT support environment. Alternatively, you may be eligible to progress to a Level 2 course such as the Diploma in System Support or the BTEC L2 First Diploma in Information and Creative Technology.
