The course is structured to allow you to combine work commitments with academic study. It is delivered at the Rhondda Campus of Coleg y Cymoedd, on Mondays from 1.30 to 6.00pm and on Wednesdays from 12.00 to 9.00pm.
*This course is offered by the University of South Wales.
You will need one of the following qualifications: BTEC National Diploma in Childhood Studies/Early Years, CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education or equivalent, or two A Levels.
You will also be required to complete 300 hours per year of paid or voluntary employment within the Childcare and Education sector.
What will I study?
You will study the professional aspects of working in childcare, from communication with colleagues to legislation and children’s rights. You will also study all aspects of childhood, including children’s health and development and the theory of education and play.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed mainly through written assignments, work-based reports and portfolio, seminars, debates and presentations.
Career Opportunities and Progression
With the skills you develop and the experience you gain on this course, you are able to exit after two years with a Foundation Degree and work in any area of childcare that is of interest to you. If you would like to continue with your studies, you could progress on to the final year of the University of South Wales’ BSc (Hon) in Childhood Studies, as this course forms the first two years of this degree.
