Do you want to turn your passion for rugby into a rewarding career? The rugby industry is growing and requires coaching professionals at all levels. This rugby coaching course has been developed in consultation with the Welsh Rugby Union, the Cardiff Blues, Newport Gwent Dragons, and Neath Swansea Ospreys. This ensures that it meets industry needs, and will provide you with the skills required to work within professional rugby clubs and/or national governing bodies.
The rugby coaching course includes all areas within coaching, including key technical and tactical knowledge, strength and conditioning, match and individual performance analysis and community rugby developments. You will also have the opportunity to gain industry-recognised IRB UKCC coaching awards which are embedded into the practical coaching modules.
Combinations of qualifications are acceptable and other qualifications not listed may also be acceptable.
Typical A-Level Offer - DD to include a relevant subject but to exclude General Studies
Typical Welsh Bacc Offer - Grade C and DE at A Level to include a relevant subject but to exclude General Studies
Typical BTEC Offer - BTEC Diploma Merit Merit in a relevant subject
Typical IB Offer - Pass IB Diploma or two IB Certificates at Higher level, to include a relevant subject.
Typical Access to HE Offer - Pass Science or Math’s Diploma with 60 credits overall to include 45 level 3 credits all Passes.
Other - GCSEs: The University normally requires a minimum 5 GCSEs including Mathematics and English at Grade C or above, or their equivalent but consideration is given to individual circumstances.
Other: You will also need an enhanced DBS check.

How will I be assessed?
Your teaching and practical exercises will take place at USW Sport Park and Coleg y Cymoedd, Nantgarw Campus.
You will be assessed via a range of methods including: written assignments, examinations, coaching plans, presentations, reports, group projects, mentoring and practical analysis laboratory testing.
You will learn through classroom-based lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions, and on community school placements with the professional regions.
In year one, you will have the opportunity to be considered as a Cardiff Blues, Gwent Dragons or Ospreys Community Rugby officer and develop rugby coaching at primary and junior school levels.
In year two, you will complete up to 300 hours of work-based learning through the Blues, Dragons & Ospreys Community coaching programmes in secondary schools. A limited number of rugby league community coaching placements are available with Wales Rugby League.

This degree prepares you for a career in a variety of jobs, including academy coach within a professional rugby club, rugby development officer, community coach, sports development officer, strength and conditioning coach, personal fitness instructor, teacher, or a career within the armed forces or emergency services.
