Apprenticeships Work Based Learning

If you are employed or self-employed, an apprenticeship could be for you. You will get top quality training, develop your skills and gain qualifications on the job.

As an employee you will earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job specific skills. You will undertake training towards a nationally recognised qualification. Apprenticeships are open to all learners aged 16 years and over.

You will also be required to undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.

Foundation Modern Apprenticeship (Level 2)
You will work towards a QCF-NVQ Certificate Level 2 in your chosen vocational area together with a Technical Certificate, Essential Skills Wales and an ERR workbook. You will receive off the job training which may include attendance at college. You will be assigned a work based assessor who will visit you in your workplace and
monitor your progress. On completion you will have the opportunity to progress to a Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship (Level 3)
You will work towards a QCF-NVQ Diploma Level 3 in your chosen vocational area together with a Technical Certificate, Essential Skills Wales and an ERR workbook. You will be assigned a work based assessor who will visit you in your workplace and monitor your progress. After completing the Apprenticeship at Level 3 you could
move onto a Higher Apprenticeship or Higher Education course at University or at Coleg y Cymoedd.

Higher Apprenticeships
The Higher Apprenticeship is a work based programme for employed people working in a management role. This programme provides opportunities to achieve qualifications at Level 4 and 5. The Higher Apprenticeship provides subsidised training that is specific to the employer’s industry sector, alongside Essential Skills Wales and a technical certificate.

“A year ago I had no idea how beneficial this course would be for me, to see how everything has fallen into place I can see how lucky I have been and how hard work pays off. A massive thanks to my tutors who helped me along the way”.

Shaun Weston

“There’s no doubt that without the opportunity to undertake an Apprenticeship I would not be in the position I am in today. It has provided me with a unique experience of working in a very skilled and technical industry. It has also put me on a career path that I’m not only enjoying, but provides far more opportunities for training, development and promotion than I would have had through any other route into work.”
