Student Welfare and Wellbeing

There are Student Welfare and Wellbeing Officers based on each Coleg y Cymoedd. Student Welfare and Wellbeing teams can support learners with personal issues including housing, benefits, mental/sexual health and relationships.

Referral Service

Student Welfare and Wellbeing Officers are able to signpost you to wide range of specialist agencies including:- Sexual Health, Housing, Mental Health, Financial Support, Substance Misuse, Domstic Abuse, Bullying and much more.

Welfare and Wellbeing Officers are also able to offer extra support to learners who are Carers (those who care for a family member with a disability, illness, mental health difficulties or problems with drug and alcohol)

Available at Nantgarw campus: a Drug and Alcohol service provided by TEDS, available every Wednesday 10am-2pm

 

Sexual Health Drop-In Service

At each campus, a weekly Sexual Health Drop-In Service exists where learners can access free condoms, pregnancy testing together with contraception, information and sexual health advice.

Services differ on each campus, please see below details

Aberdare
Monday 12.00 – 13.30pm

Cwm Taff Nurse Practitioner is available offering Chlamydia testing, pregnancy testing, Emergency Hormone Contraception and advice and information regarding all sexual health matters.

Nantgarw
Monday 8.30am – 14.00pm

Cwm Taff Nurse Practitioner is available offering Chlamydia testing, pregnancy testing, Emergency Hormone Contraception and sexual health/contraception advice and information.

Rhondda
Thursday 8.45am – 11.00am
Cwm Taff Nurse Practitioner is available offering Chlamydia testing, pregnancy testing, Emergency Hormone Contraception and advice and information regarding all sexual health matters.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 12.00 – 13.00 Student Welfare Officer drop-in service (offering condoms, pregnancy testing and advice and information)

Ystrad Mynach
Wednesday from 12.30 – 15.30pm
Gwent C-Card drop-in scheme is available (this service offers condoms, pregnancy testing, advice and information)

Foodbank Voucher Scheme

Coleg y Cymoedd work with local Foodbanks in order to support learners who experience food poverty.  Student Welfare and Wellbeing Officers are able to assess Foodbank applicants and supply vouchers for those eligible.
