The qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as an advanced hairdresser/stylist including: health and safety; client consultation; advanced cutting; styling; colouring techniques and selling products and services to clients
These units are all mandatory. Learners will further develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: hair colour correction and bridal hairstyling You will study: the creative art of cutting women’s hair, the artistic skill of colouring, imaginative dexterity of styling and dressing hair, and how to provide effective consultation support for colleagues. To develop your skills further you will also be given the opportunity to study bridal hairstyling and also the technical colour correction unit.
5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths and English/Welsh first Language) and Level 2 diploma in Hairdressing.
For progressing Coleg y Cymoedd learners you will require successful completion of Level 2 diploma in Hairdressing. There is an interview process for this course.
You will be assessed via a range of methods which include continual assessment, through observation of your practical work, the completion of an on-line portfolio, theoretical evidence and assignment work. There are external on-line examinations and Essential Skills portfolios.
On successful completion of this programme you could seek employment as a stylist, educator for manufacturers, demonstrator, exhibitions and TV work, specialist hair colourists or technicians.
