Course Information

This two year, full-time course is designed for young people over the age of 16 who would like to gain employment in the uniformed public services sector.

It is also suitable for learners who would like to enter employment in an operational role or in an office-based role supporting the uniformed public services.

What Will I Learn?

The core units give learners the essential foundation needed to understand the public services sector. You will study units such as Government; Policies and the Public Services; Leadership and Teamwork; Citizenship and Diversity; Understanding Discipline.

Specialist units provide the learners with a realistic picture of the uniformed public services and the requirements of the functional areas.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh, or completion of a full relevant vocational programme at Level 2 with overall merit grade. Level 2 programme must also include GCSE Maths & English/Welsh at grades A*- C or equivalent such as Level 2 Communications and Application of Number. Learners on this course need to have satisfactory clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

You will be invited to attend an interview. During this interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.

Assessment

To gain the Level 3 in Public Services you must complete internal assessments in all units. Assessment will cover practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written questions. All units are assessed, graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Description

Senior officers of the British Transport Police direct the specialised police service for the railway network across Britain.

Entry Requirements

Promotion to the rank of inspector can be by qualifying examination. There are no qualifying examinations to ranks above inspector; promotion is by selection only. There are accelerated promotion schemes available. All police forces have age restrictions and medical requirements.
