This course offers you the opportunity to study computing from both theoretical and practical applications. You will gain the knowledge and experience required, enabling you to support and maintain computer systems.
What Will I Learn?
You will study units such as: Communicating in the IT Industry; Digital Portfolio, Developing Mobile Apps, Maintaining Computer Hardware, Computational Thinking; Multimedia Products, Software Development and Database Systems (Nantgarw only) Automated Computer Systems (Ystrad Mynach only).
You will require 4 GCSEs at grades A*- D including Maths/Numeracy and English/Welsh or a Level 1 in Computing/IT with GCSE English/Welsh and Maths/Numeracy at Grade D or above, or a related vocational area qualification with suitable experience.
You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.
Evidence for assessment may be generated through a range of diverse activities including assignments, role play and oral presentation. There will be formal examinations for some units

- On completion of the course you will gain the skills required for employment. With further training or study, you can progress into careers such as: End User Support Technician, Trainee IT Support Officer or Technician. The course is a good grounding for progression to the Level 3 Diploma in Information Technology and Telecoms with Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced and other Level 3 and AS and A2 courses

Electrical and electronics technicians perform a variety of miscellaneous technical support functions to assist with the design, development, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems.
Entrants usually possess GCSEs/S grades, an Intermediate GNVQ/GSVQ Level II or a BTEC/ SQA award. NVQs/SVQs in Servicing Electronic Systems are available at Levels 2 and 3.
