This course provides you with a focus on art and design practice and the integration of theoretical knowledge and understanding.
You will have an opportunity to develop your ideas through experimentation with a range of materials, media and processes. Graphic design will be an element of this course.
What Will I Learn?
The AS course is divided into two separate units: Unit 1 provides opportunities to generate practical work, ideas and research from primary and contextual sources. You will experiment with media and processes, and develop and refine your ideas, presenting your outcomes.
Unit 2 is an external set assignment with a broad based thematic starting point which will enable you to work more independently in the development of ideas, intentions and response.
The A2 in the second year of study also covers two units: Unit 3 incorporates two linked elements, each with separate final outcomes: Practical work and Personal study. The investigation and development for both the Practical work and Personal study will be shown through supporting studies.
Unit 4 is the Externally Set Assignment which represents the culmination of the A2 course. The paper consists of one broad-based thematic starting point with the emphasis on research and independence in the development of ideas and outcome.
You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including Art or evidence from an artistic ability in the form of a comprehensive portfolio verified by the Art teachers.
You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
You will be assessed by 60% coursework and 40% externally set assignments.

- On successful completion of this course most learners progress onto a one year Foundation course and then to university, for courses in a wide range of degree subjects.
