The level 2 diploma in plumbing is a further step into the plumbing industry. It covers the key areas of the plumbing profession, taking into account both the practical and theoretical aspects of plumbing - therefore you will need to be good at working with numbers, understand basic scientific principles and be prepared to undertake a wide range of practical activities.
This is a one year course which involves attending college 2 evening per week for the two years.
What Will I Learn?
The course runs for 2 years in which time candidates will be taught and will practice the skills required to undertake Basic Plumbing tasks and to assist a qualified Plumber.
You will cover such aspects as: • Installing and testing pipe systems • Understanding hot and cold water systems • Above-ground drainage systems
You will also learn: • Health and Safety, • Key plumbing principles • Common plumbing processes • Central heating systems • Environmental awareness
You will require a Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing or 3 GCSEs at grades A*- D including English & Maths. You must be working within the industry.
However learners with experience will also be considered. You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.
Assessments will be on-going in the form of direct observation of practical assessments, plus multiple choice questions on–line throughout the year. There will be a final on-line multiple choice test at the end of the course.

Purchase of steel toe capped boots, overalls and a course text book is required for this course. Please discuss this at interview stage with a tutor after you have applied.
- On successful completion of this course you can seek employment within the plumbing industry. You may also be able to progress onto the level 3 Diploma, however it is advisable that learners undergo the level 2 NVQ with an employer first.
