Electronic engineering is an exciting and fast paced industry. You could work in telecommunications, manufacturing, aerospace or robotics. As an electronics engineer you'll design, develop and test components, devices, systems or equipment that use electricity as part of their source of power. These components include capacitors, diodes, resistors and transistors.
This qualification has been developed in close consultation with the Electronics Examination Board (EEB) to ensure that the qualification meets the industry needs. The course will give each candidate a full understanding of the skills and competencies required by someone working in the electronics industry. It will also provide an important progression route into employment." All full-time learners will be expected to attend skills sessions as well as their chosen vocational course. You will also be asked to attend tutorial sessions as part of your full-time course timetable.
What Will I Learn?
On this course you will learn about Electrical Circuits, Introductory Electronics, Handling and using electronic components and tools, and Electronic systems and installation methods. You will also study Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) alongside your main qualification. You will also be expected to attend a skills session and tutorials as part of your full time timetable.
3 GCSEs at grades A*- E including Maths/Numeracy & English/Welsh.
You will be invited to attend an interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required. The better your grades the more options you will have and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher-level course.
Assessment for this course is by continuous evaluation of practical competencies along with formal written assignments and online external examinations.

- On successful completion of this course you will have gained the skills you need to start or progress in careers such as: Computer Aided Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Electrical/Electronic Maintenance. On successful completion of the first year allows an education path to the VRQ level 3 electrical and electronic certificate. Other routes of progression include, the level 2 Diploma in Engineering or the level 2 VRQ Diploma in Engineering Technology. Successful completion of this course would also provide an ideal route into a Modern Apprenticeship programme.
