Foundation Year: 2017
Previous School: Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive
After Foundation: BA Graphic Communication, University of South Wales
Where are you now?: Freelance designer/maker and co-owner of photography business
"Foundation art and design was the best year of my whole education and I will always look back on it with fond memories. My F group have become my friends for life and having the opportunity to be so creative, share ideas and go on trips with like-minded people was a positive experience in itself.
Foundation bridged the gap between secondary school and my degree course. It confirmed that graphics was the creative subject I was the most passionate about, as well as introducing me to other areas of creativity, the majority of which I’d never tried. I never thought for a minute I’d enjoy the animation segment of foundation but this is where I merged animation and my love for design, discovering motion graphics, something which I never thought I’d be able to do and I’ve continued using it within my work today.
It was a massive confidence booster for me and I was able to develop a portfolio with a wide range of work. The opening night of the exhibition was one of my proudest moments to date - I applied everything I’d learnt that year into my final piece and being part of an exhibition with such an array of creativity was incredible.
Currently, I’m working on my final major degree project before I graduate in graphic communication. Alongside my studies, I’m working as a freelance designer offering design services and making customised bags and T-shirt’s for small businesses, as well as co-owning a growing wedding photography business, all of which I have foundation to thank for.
Foundation is absolutely invaluable and I will always treasure the year of creativity and exploration that shaped my future."
