Overview

This qualification provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to start a career in the electrical installation industry. It forms the foundation for becoming a qualified electrician and is intended for those with little or no prior experience in the sector.

Installation of wiring systems and enclosures
Understanding the structure of the electrical industry

Basic practical skills in domestic, commercial and industrial wiring systems

Aged 19+
Living in Wales

Plus, one of the following:

Employed (inc. agency & zero hour contracts), earning under £34,303
Self-employed, earning under £34,303
Full-time carer, earning under £34,303
Prisoner on day release

Entry requirements

No prior qualifications required
A good standard of maths, English, and an interest in electrical work is recommended
Suitable for school leavers, career changers, or anyone beginning a pathway into the electrical trade

Assessment

Online multiple-choice exams
Practical assignments and demonstrations
Written assignments and portfolio work
Ongoing tutor observation during workshop tasks

Career progression

Progression to EAL Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation
Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation
Entry into further technical training or employment as an electrician’s mate or trainee
Builds foundation toward full NVQ (on-site) qualification
